2013 Santas Sweet Run

Diesel and General Petroleum Installations and Maintenance for the second year running participated in Santa's Sweet Run in Port Elizabeth. The towing industry as well as local Port Elizabeth businesses get together to bring back the Christmas cheer to children around Port Elizabeth. 2013 also saw the Santa's Sweet Run visiting the aged and spending time with them eating and enjoying a slice of cake and receiving a small gift.

Fish for Friends

"Making an Impact on our Disadvantaged Communities"

"Fish for Friends", a first for sports, is an initiative that all at Diesel and General are proud to be associated with.

The initiative was launched in Nelson Mandela Bay as a fund raiser at the Standard Bank Algoa Bay Tuna Classic 2005 and all Yellowfin tuna caught during the competition was donated to impoverished communities. This year, 5 897,45 Kilograms of tuna were donated providing 30 000 meals to needy people within the Nelson Mandela Metro.

A large extent of the tuna and food parcels went to three tips in the Metro, as many people from the impoverished areas surrounding the tips were scavenging between the garbage for food on a daily basis. The three tips who benefited from the programme were Walmer Tip, Arlington Tip and Kragga Kamma Tip.

The House of Resurrection, a home in Salsoneville caring for people infected and affected by the Aids virus also benefited from the initiative. The house has 10 babies, 9 toddlers and 11 adults in their care at present.

St Peter's Anglican Church, runs a charity group known as Maxicane and operates a soup kitchen on Mondays and Thursdays feeding an average of 50 underprivileged people per day as well as community work for families infected or affected by the HIV virus. Their charity are also care givers to 17 families in Zwide who depend on them for food parcels and counselling. At present they are awaiting funds / sponsorship and the food donations were an extreme benefit to their cause.

Lake Farm Centre is a home for mentally handicapped adults on the outskirts of Port Elizabeth received the food parcels with gratitude to assist them in looking after the 87 people whom reside there. The centre has a protective workshop where residents adults are kept occupied by partaking in pottery, baking, gardening, beading, woodwork and so forth. This teaches them necessary life skills and their goods are then sold to the public at their coffee shop to raise funds for the centre.

As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility Programme, Urban Lava Advertising along with the Miss Spring 2009 winners and a few good friends ( Sea of Life, Diesel and General, Work@Play), committed to painting the EP Child and Youth Care Centre.

Miss Spring finalists 2009 left their makeup, fancy clothes and high heel shoes in their cupboards and brought along a much needed Spring to EP Children's HOME on a cold dreary Saturday morning in October.

From dull to brilliant, this was no ordinary PVA paint job! It was COLOUR therapy. Thank you to our sponsors who made the event possible and a big thank you to Mark from Prominent Paints who made donated the paint needed to make the day possible.Should you wish to donate to the home SMS ULA Help to 35010.
